Sizing Guides

Normally film sizing is simply done by actually putting up some sample packages. To estimating film size can be done by general guidelines which may be used.

Centerfold Film Sizing
General sizing guideline for Semi-automatic and Automatic L-sealers utilizing centerfolded (CF) film.

The product length (L) is parallel to the centerfold edge of the shrink films. Product width (W) is parallel to the cut off or cross seal (prior seal). The film width of centerfolded film required to package a product is:

Semi-Automatic L-sealer

  • Film Width

Product Width (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 2.0” (for product height below 3.0”)
Product Width (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 2.5” (for product height 3.0” to 4.5”)
Product Width (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 3.0” (for product height higher than 4.5”)
  • Film Length

Product Length (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 1.0” (for product height 0” to 2.5”)
Product Length (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 1.5” (for product height 2.5” to 4.5”)
Product Length (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 2.0” (for product height higher than 4.5”)

Automatic L-sealer

  • Film Width

Product Width (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 4.0” (for product height 0” to 3”)
Product Width (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 4.5” (for product height 3” to 6”)
  • Film Length

Product Length (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 1.0” (for product height 0” to 2.5”)
Product Length (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 1.5” (for product height 2.5” to 4.5”)
Product Length (inch) + Product Height (inch) + 2.0” (for product height 4.5” to more)

Example (Automatic L-sealer)
Product Size: 13” L X 10” W X 4” H

Film Centerfuld Width = 10 + 4 + 4.5
Film Centerfuld Width = 18.5”

Film Length = 13 + 4 + 2
Film Length = 19”

Film Usage
To calculate a rull of shrink film can pack how many packs film length (#2 above) are used.
Total film length / film length (#2 above) x 95% (maximum natural loss)
